“Sustainable Transport and Travel for All”
It is my great honour to invite you to be anexhibitor and participant at the exposition of the 12th InternationalConference on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled Persons(TRANSED 2010).
The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation is veryprivileged and honoured to host the 12th International Conference andExhibition on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled Persons(TRANSED) in Hong Kong in 2010. The Honourable Mr Donald Tsang, ChiefExecutive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is thePatron of the event.
TRANSED was started in 1978 by the InternationalCommittee under the US Transportation Research Board. The InternationalCommittee is a group of professionals who are experts in developing newstrategies to enable seniors and persons with disabilities to maintaintheir independence and participate fully in everyday life just like anyother citizen. TRANSED's mission is to promote the exchange ofexperiences in planning, financing, application of legal rules andregulations, policy and realization according to the needs of that partof society. The first TRANSED was held in Cambridge, England in 1978.Throughout the years TRANSED has been held eleven times in eightcountries. From its roots as a small, specialized meeting among ahandful of researchers, the conference today attracts hundreds ofdelegates from 40 nations from six continents. TRANSED hastraditionally been held in Europe and North America and only once inAsia (Japan) in 2004. The previous TRANSED 2007 was hosted by TransportCanada and held in Montreal.
The theme of the TRANSED 2010 Conference is“Sustainable Transport and Travel for All”. We expect to receive over1,000 participants at the Conference and attract over 100 exhibitorsfrom overseas, the Asia Pacific region and China. We also expectprofessionals, academics, government officials, researchers, manufacturers, operators and businessmen from various disciplines, including social service, logistics, transport, rehabilitation, travel, etc. It will be one of the few international conferences that attractmulti-sectorial and multi-disciplinary engagement.
The event is going to be held in Hong Kong from 2 to4 June 2010 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Istrongly believe that, by bringing together experts, consumers as wellas the general public to the conference and exhibition, thisinternational event will stimulate advancement in making transportationuniversally accessible for Hong Kong, China and the internationalcommunity.
